Higham ... village
of literary characters is a brief history of the village of
Higham, the location of an episode involving Shakespeare’s Sir
John Falstaff and the last home of Charles Dickens. Gads Hill - Dickens
home, the tiny church of Saint Mary and the surrounding marshes were
used by Charles Dickens as a setting in Great Expectations. The interiors
of Gads Hill and the Knowle are included.
Higham is at one end of a long tunnel originally built as part of a
canal linking the rivers Medway and Thames that was later taken over
by the railway.
Photographs depicting the village, everyday life and celebrations together
with the village as it is today is shown in Higham...village
