Shorne
... the village on a steep hill, tells the
history of the village of Shorne.
Shorne grew from the efforts of several notable families,
principally the Lords of Cobham and later the Earls of Darnley from
their estate at Cobham.
The marshes by the River Thames, where there is a Victorian fort are still used
for grazing. The marshes became separated from the village when a canal for barges
was constructed that was later taken over by the railway.
Houses dating from 14th century, workers housing from the 1800s, and buildings
of the 20th century, including housing developments are all included in
Shorne ...the village on a steep hill
