SNODLAND
~ the village that became a town
The history of the village that became
the town of Snodland on the west bank
of the River Medway originates from a Saxon settler.
Two industries developed in Snodland. One is as a major centre of cement
production; the other is the manufacture of paper. In the nineteenth century
the family of Townsend Hook arrived in the village to take over the paper mill.
They left a legacy which still benefits Snodland, some
of which have become landmarks.
This video includes paintings, photographs, cine film and video footage depicting
the village, everyday life in Snodland and as
it is today.
